If you’ve spent any time up here in Wilden, you know it has a vibe you just can't find anywhere else in Kelowna. It is that specific feeling of driving up the hill and feeling the city noise just drop away. We have built a life surrounded by ridgelines, hidden ponds, and trails that start right at our front doors.
But as much as we love our peace and quiet, there has always been one piece of the puzzle missing. We have the nature, but we’ve been waiting for that central spot where we can actually gather. That is why the recent news about Wilden Market Square is so exciting for those of us who live here.
A Village Vibe in the Hills
When we talk about a "city centre" for Wilden, don't picture a busy intersection or a typical strip mall. The plan for Market Square is all about a pedestrian-first experience.
The vision is a classic European-style plaza where cars take a backseat, and people come first. Most of the parking will be hidden underground, leaving the surface for us to walk, bike, and hang out. It is going to be the kind of place where you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat and actually run into your neighbours instead of just waving at them through a windshield.

Built for the Next Generation
One of the most impactful parts of this development is how it supports local families. We aren't just getting shops; we are getting a full community infrastructure that makes life a lot easier for parents.
Future Wilden Elementary: The school district has already purchased the land just north of Market Square for a future elementary school. This means our kids will eventually be able to walk to school on safe, neighbourhood paths.
On-Site Daycare: The first phase of construction actually includes a dedicated daycare space right within the commercial hub.
The Commons Park: Right next to the school site, a new city park and sports ground are planned to give everyone more space to play.
More Than Just Shops: The Pondside Amenities
The "left side" of the master plan is where the nature of Wilden meets the energy of the new square. The proposed design includes some incredible spots to hang out by the water:
Waterfront Promenade: A scenic boardwalk and walking path will wrap along the shoreline of Wilden Pond.
The Amphitheatre: A stepped lawn and stage area designed for community events and outdoor performances.
Indoor Market Hall: A year-round building that connects the plaza to the pond, perfect for local markets even when it’s cold outside.
Ice Skating Rink: The plan even includes a dedicated space for a winter skating rink in the heart of the square.
The Best of Both Worlds
In a few years, the "Wilden life" is going to look a little different, and in the best way possible. We will still have the quiet mornings and the wildlife, but we will finally have a heart for our community.
Imagine finishing a hike on your favourite trail and walking straight down to the Square for lunch or to pick up the kids from school without ever needing to grab your car keys. We are moving toward a future where we get to keep our connection to the wild while finally having a place to call our own. It feels like the neighbourhood is finally becoming the complete village it was always meant to be.
